Malawi, Africa

Sometimes all it takes is one ordinary person to bring about incredible change in the lives of others. You can join us on this life-changing journey to empower others, one at a time, to become agents of change themselves.

Malawi, in southeastern Africa, one of the least developed countries in the world is crippled by poverty. Children, women and men of Malawi have a huge need for physical, mental and spiritual transformation.

Medical clinic

Clinic Building Project Nearing Completion

The local leaders in the rural area of Chasolo, Malawi (population of 25,000) made a request to partner with Agape Italia to build an outpatient clinic, two houses for medical staff and drill 2 wells. This will help the local community face high infant and maternal mortality rates and offer first aid.

The basic building materials (bricks, stones, sand and water) and part of the manpower are provided by the local population. Agape Italia proposes to cover all the costs for construction and labor that cannot be borne by the villages themselves.

The construction is well underway but, due to the pandemic, organizing in-person fundraising events has been put on hold. We are trusting God to provide the remaining funds so the clinic can be up and running very soon. We have already raised 75% of the funds needed, and as soon as God provides the remaining 23,000 euros we will be able to finish the work on the building project, and hand over the clinic compound to the local community.

High School Scholarships

The Challenge

Half a million children in Malawi have been orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. Without an education there is little hope of escaping the cycle of extreme poverty that they find themselves in.

The only option for a high school education is to attend the state run boarding schools. The cost of attending is the biggest obstacle that these children face. The average annual income is about 340 USD per year. Students are required to pay for their school fees, food, housing, uniforms and books. Those who cannot pay cannot attend school.

Overcoming Obstacles to Education

Education is a powerful tool to fight ignorance and poverty and is a gateway for human and community development. Agape in Action promotes high school scholarships to send kids who are orphans or coming from very poor families to high school.

In Malawi, high school graduates become an important resource for the family and the nation. We teach students who participate in this scholarship program to give back. When they finish school and begin a job we ask them to help provide scholarships for younger children. They do not need to be rich to help sponsor a child’s education. This creates sustainable development.

You can make a difference in the life of a student.

A gift of $650 USD

covers school fees, books, lodging, meals and transportation for one student for one year.
